As we get ready to celebrate National Dog Dog, a new survey from E-Score reveals America’s favorite canine entertainment characters. Both adults and kids were polled and the top dog was Dug from the film Up.

Here’s the List:

1.Dug (Up)

2. Snoopy

3. Scooby-Doo

4. Brian Griffin (Family Guy)

5. Gromit

6. Tramp

7. Pluto

8. Lady

9. Underdog

10. Goofy

11. Toto

12. Lassie

13. Clifford the Big Red Dog

14. Beethoven the Dog

15. Pongo (101 Dalmatians)

“People have such a connection to animal characters of all kinds, and dogs especially register very highly in our character database. In many cases, celebrity dogs rank higher in popularity than many of their human counterparts,” says Gerry Philpott, President/CEO. “These canine characters have made us laugh, cry and many kids describe these characters simply as ‘Good Friends.'”

Along with appeal and awareness, E-Score also measures 37 different individual attributes for each character. Attribute scores can reveal what it is about a character that makes it appealing. The top attributes associated with these dogs are “A Good Friend” (for kids 6-12) and “Funny” for both kids and adults alike.

National Dog Day was founded in 2004 to call more attention to animal rescues and adoptions. #NationalDogDay

Distraction toys such as a Kong can provide additional hours of fun if you stuff it with Ultramix sweet potato or pumpkin puree and freeze the toy until the puree is solid. Be sure to give the stuffed Kong to your dog outside or somewhere where you won’t mind cleaning up the mess – if he doesn’t lick up everything for you! Peanut butter is another great option.
