On May 12 and 13, golden retrievers and their families will be frolicking on Dewey Beach and Rehoboth Beach in Delaware for a two-day event dedicated to raising awareness of and funds for the Morris Animal Foundation Golden Retriever Lifetime Study.
Dewey’s Golden Jubilee, will feature a variety of activities for golden retrievers and their families, including a beach party and a bonfire.
All proceeds from the event will go toward the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, which seeks to identify the environmental, lifestyle, genetic and nutritional risk factors for cancer and other major diseases in dogs. More than 3,000 golden retrievers are enrolled in the Study, which began in 2012 and has collected thousands of data points and samples to inform canine health research.
Kim Bronakoski, who coordinates the event, said she first began as a fundraiser attendee. Eventually, she decided to take a leading role, as supporting cancer research is a cause close to her heart.
“I’ve had dogs all my life, and Riley was my first golden,” Bronakoski said. “It was just a love affair. We spent every waking moment together. We lost him last July. I do this because I know there’s a cure out there, and I want to find it.”
