Low Cost Veterinary Clinics in Walmart Going Countrywide

The first low-cost walk-in veterinary clinic located in a Walmart in the Dallas-Fort Worth area has opened in Kaufman, Texas.

Operated by Essentials PetCare, pet parents living in or near Kaufman, Texas, can now bring their dogs and cats tt for routine veterinary care and minor illness exams on a walk-in basis, without the need to set an appointment. They opened their first Walmart walk-in back in 2016.

“We are delighted to bring our walk-in clinics to Kaufman,” said Dr. Jesica Workman the company’s managing veterinarian in Texas. “As both a mom and a pet parent, I know first-hand how important it is for families to have access to convenient and affordable, quality care.”

Like the first Essentials PetCare clinic in Port Richey, Florida, the Kaufman clinic provides routine vaccinations, labwork, and treatment for a variety of minor illnesses, such as ear infections, common skin conditions and urinary issues. Patients with more serious ailments, like chronic illness, or those in need of emergency care and surgical procedures, will be referred to full-service veterinary hospitals in the surrounding community.

“Our team is thrilled to have Essentials PetCare in the Kaufman store. We continue to work toward providing affordable, accessible and quality health and wellness services for our customers and their family members – and that includes fur babies. We believe this additional service is another example of how we can help customers save money and live better,” said D’Angelo Watson, Walmart store manager, Kaufman.

According to a December 2018 study published by Access to Veterinary Care Coalition and the University of Tennessee, nearly 28 percent of U.S. households with an estimated 29 million dogs and cats experience barriers to veterinary services because of cost and not knowing where to access care.

By expanding the traditional model of veterinary care with a focus on convenience, quality and affordability, Essentials PetCare provides pet owners with better opportunities to care for their pets’ well-being while helping to reduce the number of pets not receiving medical care.

Essentials PetCare clinics also serve to compliment full-service veterinary hospitals by introducing veterinary care to a large segment of the U.S. pet owning market, which has traditionally not pursued veterinary services because of cost, and the company’s veterinarians educate clients on the benefits of full-service veterinary care when recommended.

The goal is to go countrywide with 100 new locations opening within the next year.
