Pet Praising: Why It Benefits Both You and Your Pet

Praising your pet and telling them you love them is a sure way to enhance your bond.

If you are a besotted pet parent, you probably praise your pet constantly and don’t even think about it.

It’s almost a natural response for every time they do something to tell them they are:

Wonderful

Cute

Adorable

The Best dog/cat ever

Soul mate

Best friend

Confidant

The list is endless.

The interesting part, and something we probably don’t stop to think about either, it that every time we hug them, pet them and praise them, we are further enhancing that human –animal bond. And the benefits spring back at us too. There are numerous studies that show how pets improve our general health and well being. Petting them calms us down, grounds us, especially in stressful times

Of course, as much as our pets love the praise, the love treats as symbols of reward too. It’s really a small price to hand out daily for unconditional love. But remember that treats have calories. So be sure to include them in your pet’s daily calorie count.

And you can amp up the fun by hiding treats inside puzzle toys so that they have to really work for them. And then of course, when they succeed, you can add an extra dollop of praise!

To celebrate National Pet Month, Purina has launched a pet praising campaign. The Internet is full of shaming them. Now the idea is to praise them and spotlight the amazing ways they enhance our lives.

Purina is inviting pet owners to share their #PetPraising on Pure Love for Pets. Every pet praising photo submitted through the website by May 24th has a chance to win the Pet Praising sweepstakes. The winner and their pet will participate in a professional photo shoot, which will be featured on Real Simple. No better way to show off how amazing your pet is!

WIN A PROFESSIONAL PHOTO SHOOT WITH YOUR PET

Taking the photographs to submit is in itself a bonding experience. My kitties were not co-operative I might add; all they want to do was taste test the Friskies Wild West flavored Party Mix. Those beef liver and cheddar snacks had them so focused on munching that they refused to pose. But Nalu was happy to get some love from his Dad Evan along with a Beggin’ bacon strip!

Here’s your chance to  do some pet praising. And submit those photos here now!
