One of the prime reasons perfectly wonderful and perfectly healthy cats lose their homes is beyond they do not use their litter boxes.
And one of the main reasons for this is because they are dirty! Cats are very clean animals and expect their toilet to always be in pristine condition.
The state of the litter box is a human problem not a cat one.
Boxes need to be scooped daily and washed out regularly. However for many people even this routine is too much.
Well there is no getting away from daily scooping but the problem of empyting out and washing the litter box can be completely eradicated with the use of biodegradable litter boxes.
I was recently introduced to throw-away litter boxes made by a company called Clean Healthy Bowls – the makers of throwaway food bowls for human and pet consumption.
They make two boxes in a small and large size. The latter is comparable to a standard large plastic box. (see above). There is an unlined one designed to last a week and a lined one — lined with a special 100 per cent compostable liner — that allows for it to be used for longer periods without leakage, and is ideal for lazy litter box cleaners!
Then, if you have used a eco-friendly litter, all you have to do is toss the box – litter and all into the compost heap eliminating the monthly washout.
The plus of an eco-friendly throwaway box is that if you cat is used to such a box and you have to travel, you can simply take a couple along with you to use at the destination and she will be none the wiser.
These boxes are also ideal for cat shows and of course shelter pets. In fact, they have been tested and approved by numerous humane societies.
The biodegradable litter box from CleanHealthyPets.com gets the Must Have Stamp of Approval.
