“Are you awake?” Ziggy, my feline alarm clock, has arrived.

No response brings a couple more “meows” and some more insistent prodding. Next, he walks above my head across the pillow and rattles the lampshade. He knows this gets a response.

I sit up. He’s ahead of the game and rushes off to wait for me in the bathroom.

Dogs are very good at hiding pain. It’s an inherent trait because, in the wild, signs of dog pain are considered signs of weakness, making them a target for predators. And, even in the cushioned comfort of a loving home, a dog in pain will stoically try and conceal its discomfort. Luckily, there are some obvious tell-tale observations, and, being able to read them, offers great insight into how your dog is feeling.

News flash! A recent survey shows that pet owners make excellent, responsible tenants. They stay longer, get along well with their neighbors, and take the responsibility of their pets seriously, resulting in far less property damage than is purported to occur. Plus, most pet parents pay for such damage out of their own pockets! So why are landlords still slow to embrace this awesome economic opportunity, resulting in a shortage of pet-friendly living places in all price brackets?

Cats are famously difficult to medicate successfully. Fortunately, compounding medications and customizing them to a cat’s particular tastes is becoming more common. Such meds allow veterinarians to better treat their feline patients and pet parents to successfully administer the treatment.
Cats are particularly sensitive to bitter tastes, and many cat parents often recount their devious tactics to avoid swallowing a bitter pill.

A “utopia” is defined as an imagined place in which everything is perfect. So, can you imagine just how idyllic Utopia would be if it included cats? Meet Jason Gluck, the man who created such a reality in Catopia, a gorgeous, imaginative, magical (no apology for the string of adjectives), state-of-the art feline adoption center in Jupiter, Florida. The cats who live here (albeit temporarily) have no idea that they are homeless.

When it comes to food, every recipe celebrity chef Bobby Flay creates he does from scratch. It’s a behavioral trait to which his Maine Coon sidekick, his beloved cat Nacho, can relate. So with Nacho as his inspiration, starting from scratch is exactly what the internationally famous culinarian did when he decided to enter the pet food space making what he’s labeled “chef-inspired, cat-crafted” cat food.
