Trot Pets — The Ultimate Pet Dinner Experience

Photographs Sandy Robins / Evan Sandler and Trot Pets

They say that necessity is the mother of invention. But it’s not very often that a product comes to market that is an absolute game changer for a pet’s health and everyday lifestyle well-being on multiple levels.

The Trot Pets elevated feeder is such a gamechanger. It’s better described as a pet diner because it includes the “dining table” and, to reiterate, solves several major problems associated with meal times.

Firstly, the underside of the bowls is magnetic and designed to “clip” in place onto a sturdy silicone mat. This instantly solves the problem on bowls sliding around as the dog tries to eat. They stay fixed in place throughout a meal. And, for messy eaters, the silicone mat is rimmed to contain any food or water spillage.

Further, the silicone mats are designed to sit firmly on the dining “table”, thus raising the height of this dinnerware. There are three heights to meet the needs of dogs of all sizes – 3 inches, 6 inches and 12 inches. They’re made from sustainable bamboo in a mid-century-modern design that blends stylishly into any living space. The dining tables are designed two hold two bowls – water and food. But there is also a single bowl design for pet parents who may prefer to provide a pet fountain for water.

Elevated feeding is a very important feature as it makes eating a far more comfortable, and healthier eating experience for all pets but especially for tri-pod pets as they no longer have to bend down to floor level to eat because of their physical disability.

Further, a raised bowl promotes better digestion, and can possibly help prevent bloat.  (On a side note, bloat — gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) is a serious condition and is fatal if left untreated. It can occur when a dog’s stomach fills with gas, food, or fluid and subsequently twists. GDV develops without warning and can progress quickly. It is always an emergency.)

There are two bowl designs that work with this system. There is a standard bowl and also a slow feeder design. The latter will definitely slow down a dog that tends in “inhale” a meal without using a single taste bud! Made from high quality stainless steel, they are very easy to clean and are dishwasher safe. They also come with food-safe, tight-fitting lids, ideal for travel or if left over food needs to be placed in the refrigerator.

Our tester, Riley is a 35 lb. dog and the three-inch table was the ideal height to improve her dinner experience. And yes, the slow feeder design definitely helped her” savor” her meal.

tip of the day

Dogs and cats with allergies may suffer more nasal issues from perfumed rooms sprays. They can affect human household members too.

The Must Have Stamp of Approval is based on my personal opinion and the test experiences of the Reigning Cats and Dogs product testers as well as my personal knowledge of the product category. The Must Have Stamp of Approval is designed to advise pet parents on products that will in some way improve their pet’s health and well being, or, their own experiences as a pet parent. Manufacturers are welcome to submit information and samples of new and innovative products for testing. The product testing team consists of dogs and cats of different temperaments and activity levels etc in an attempt to cover a lot of bases and produce worthwhile reviews. The team loves what they do and get to keep the products so they can show off to their friends and further spread the word.
